food and other pleasures – dverse
Pot roast I love you not the least
Celery, carrots sliced piece by piece
cooking slowly, throughout the day
Even with tofu still a lovely feast
Glorious champagne sparkling light
In fluted crystal taste delight
A glass or two can set the mood
When two retire for holding tight
But never mix these disparate friends
one can satisfy one begins
Feed the hunger, feed the soul
invoke each one to different ends
haha just can’t get enough, more and more we want at our shore
This made me hunger and thirst simultaneously!
How true. Food can never sate spiritual or emotional hunger, and wine never satisfies bodily hunger. Or I may be taking it wrong. ๐ In any case, you wrote a lovely response to the prompt – both form and content.
once we release a poem, however other’s read it is right ๐
Ah – very clever – two passions indeed (and one might feed the other). This was magic!
But Jesus is both the bread and the wine. He is both the corn being sown, becoming bread, and the vine giving fruit, becoming wine. ๐
He who drinks from the living water will never thirst ๐
“lol” ๐ Love the way you even still … got the tofu in! xo
Ha ha! Just for you ๐
delightful and delicious lines ๐
Well written and I like your story. An over do on either can make a disaster.
fun read… the end had much wisdom
hmm… tofu pot roast? I’m a dedicated meat-lover, but I’d still give it a try. yeah, disparate friends and alcohol do not mix; I know – I made a fool of myself at a party one time (1st and only time I ever got drunk) it was a mess. oy, ya live and you learn.
yes, live and learn is a good plan.
ha yes – better not mix them… there’s so much value in what has slow-cooked all day will be an excellent meal…in any way – i don’t need champagne then..smiles
Now I want pot-roast!
even with tofu ? ๐
No…I’ll say “no thankyou” to the tofu
me too !
Very good use of the form. My favourite Well done !
We, most of us overindulge, so this piece is bang on; nice use of the form too.
Really a very good work here.. The food and the wine each having their own tribute.. And the dire consequence of over indulging in that last stanza.. Fun and serious at the same time..
a glass of champagne in a crystal glass sounds inviting and relaxing..
fine glass becomes any beverage ๐
Feed the hunger, feed the soul
invoke each one to different ends
All good things in life will always have caution written all over them! Great lines bill!
Hank
Ah, it has been a long time since I’ve had pot roast with celery and carrots. I remember potatoes with it as well. Well penned.
ha. too much wine or champagne and pot roast together can lead to a mess…
i will take the warm belly full of comfort food over the other, personally…
Good thing I just finished dinner ~ Wouldn’t mind having a glass or two to set the mood ~
You have made me hungry, Bill. With champagne in crystal glass you can never go wrong, whatever the end.
