matryoshkas doll

August 25, 2014

Eyes invite to delve ever deeper
Lips of red, painted silent smile
A heart so hidden, none can find it
Love escapes the Matrushka doll

  1. Neat poem…. but what is a Matrushka doll? 🙂

    • the little painted Eastern European dolls with one inside the other, each smaller and the last one very small and empty. But the poem is really about someone who has hidden their heart.

  2. sad poem, in that the inner layers of dolls, like the peeling away the onion, leaves the doll so empty even on the outside (and the felt sense for reader/writer, too)
