I read a lovely haiku here that reminded me of younger times

sometimes when the scent of roses
wafts upon the air
with tip-toed stealth
melancholy strides
rhythmically beside me,
the fragrance of youthful love
inevitably destined to fail

  1. You ‘killed’ it with that last line – but it is painful truth that most can relate to

    • thanks Eric — I was a little worried that the middle of the poem didn’t connect to the end. Glad you liked it, funny how that worked, and how our parents knew it, but didn’t interfere, just helped pick up the pieces
