He wanted to. The words were on his lips…
“Seeing you can make a man, though he be rich or poor, feel like a king.”
But she had turned and vanished, his words merely thoughts, a chance never to be recaptured.
The next day a young woman loitered near the station, disappointed he did not appear. She had come because she believed in love at first sight. With a reluctant sigh she departed for she also believed in chance.
Fantastic little romantic piece that isn’t meant to be!
thanks Joe
Sad tale Bill, if only he could have spoken…
haven’t you ever had a moment when you wished you had not remained silent? Sometimes the cost is very high.
thanks for stopping by Dee.
I hope fate smiles on them. Or maybe some verbal communication might be an idea.
Like ships meeting on the ocean, the chance of connecting is small…
the number of people we can connect with at the same time is limited as well. Our “tribe” generally has a quota..
His name wasn’t Phillip was it? These guards have a lot of time to fantasize. Nice one, Bill.
Predestination or chance. The Ying and Yang. Stay or go. It’s all good. It’s all unfolding as it should. Nice little piece. Randy
thanks Randy – I met Jan through a chance meeting.
The chance of attending a rugby game one fine Saturday…
two cheesburgers and only one open chair ?
I tried to capture a fairy tale feel, but sometimes real life is better.
Chance meetings do happen, but usually, only in the movies. Good mood piece, Bill.
I met Jan through chance 🙂
Poignant, Bill. Maybe they depended too much on chance.
Shalom,
Rochelle
chance always plays a great role in fairy tales, even modern ones 🙂 thanks for stopping by.
What would you have thought if he had seized the moment and uttered those words to you ?
Bad timing. Opportunities lost. Oh, I can relate to that!
thanks – yes we all have those — but his was duty prohibited him from speaking — such is the cost of tradition.
She’s got high expectations, not only finding her prince but a mind-reader too. 🙂 Nice one Bill.
mind reader, isn’t that a requirement of every man ? 🙂
Absolutely. Great response.
thanks Russ
