failure – poem
Is it worth it, even if we fail?
if never man had thought and dreamed
of clear night skies which heavenly seemed
for those who failed, left slash and cairn
where one has gone more may fare
when only ends the means confirm
the human soul has ceased to yearn
till then may bold adventurers aspire
to ever lift his brethren higher

I enjoyed this very much.
Perhaps if we focused more on the process rather than the result, it would all seem more worth it….success would be a bonus. Just a thought.
Always try …. but never lose touch with your conscience or humanity.

There’s a lesson for failures, not regrets though ~
We need to stay in touch with our own madness at times, & use failure as part of our reason for being here in lesson, to take something from it, to learn, to grow, to continue to reach beyond our grasp, our status, our means, even our supposed potential.
to fear failure is a terrible thing… I’ve just been reading about Lance Armstrong – who gave up his dignity, and some would say his humanity to win at all costs
Learning is the most important. Without failure one does not learn. And without learning, can one ever succeed?
time is failures friend and enemy – to fail in youth forges us, to fail in age crushes us for we’ve little time to recover.
But to not try – is much much worse
The experience is what counts most to me—even if I win or lose, succeed or fail. Not all can have the courage to even at least try to do or accomplish a thing, but when they do it’s rather more rewarding & there alone you already won for conquering the fear, for being brave enough. Winning & taking home the prize is just a bonus for the efforts well exerted. Thanks for the poem!
Thanks Kelvin – when I used to play rugby we used to say “Treat victory and defeat as impostors and indeed be greater than they” – not sure if it’s Kipling, but it’s some English fellow 🙂

Maybe fear itself is worse than failure… Better bold than broken I think.
I;ve heard people say that other the word alone, regret is one of the most frightening of words. I’d rather have tried and failed than to have sat in my rocker wondering what if….excellent poem.

What can I say….the same can be said of the onnabugeisha, the female Samurai. I tend at times to be, to my husband’s mind, a bit reckless.
The aspect of failure can be demeaning.. but nonetheless, it helps us strive for the ladder of success. Sooner or later.. we shall make it through. Beautifully executed 😀
